Labor Day Weekend is right around the corner - relaxation, hot dogs and hamburgers, family time, road trips, and sporting events are all anticipated ways to spend the long weekend. However, there are many hazards that come along with the celebrations. While enjoying the last days of summer with family and friends, make safety a top priority.
When you are setting up your grill for your Labor Day cookout, make sure to place away from any buildings or low hanging patio roofs. To further prevent fires, place the grill on level surface. Also, carbon monoxide poisoning can occur from grilling in enclosed places; always grill outdoors and in an open, ventilated space. Finally, while you are grilling, keep a fire extinguisher nearby in case of accidents.
Before heading out on your weekend road trip, do a quick check-up on your vehicle. Check tires, head lights, and any potential leaks. Don’t forget to pack an emergency kit which includes jumper cables, flashlight, first aid, and some snacks in case you get stranded. While on the road, make sure the kids and yourself is buckled in tight for the drive. The unexpected does happen – and you want to be ready if it does.
Be careful with the amount of alcohol you consume. NEVER drink and drive. Always make sure that you have a safe way to get from one place to the next if you have had a drink.
In lake, pool, or otherwise, never allow anyone to swim alone, no matter how old. Swim in pairs of two, so each person can look after each other and take notice if someone is struggling in the water. Plus, those sun rays are powerful - don’t forget the sunscreen!
Before the weekend kicks off, review your insurance and be sure that you have the proper coverage – whether you are hitting the road of staying at home. Check out your options with TVC Insurance.
Enjoy the holiday!
